Απ' ότι φαίνεται η ορχιδέα αυτή είναι ενδημική της Αστυπάλαιας. Ξεχωρίζει από την Ophrys iricolor λόγω του ψηλότερου βλαστού (μέχρι 40cm) και των μικρότερων ανθών (μήκος χείλους 12-17mm έναντι 14-23mm της Ophrys iricolor). Επίσης ανθίζει λίγο αργότερα, στα τέλη Μαρτίου - Απρίλιο, ενώ το έντονα γαλάζιο σχέδιο του θυρεού είναι μικρότερο και δεν φτάνει ποτέ τους κόλπους μεταξύ πλαϊνών - κεντρικού λοβού (φυτό Νο1).
Σημείωση: Η παρουσίαση του είδους θα ήταν αδύνατη χωρίς την ευγενική προσφορά του Walter Van den Bussche, ο οποίος επισκέφτηκε πολλά Ελληνικά νησιά την Άνοιξη του 2005 και απέστειλε όλες τις παρακάτω διαφάνειες.
This Ophrys seems to be endemic to Astypalaea island (the westernmost Dodecanese island). It is discriminated from Ophrys iricolor by the tall stem (15-40cm) and the smaller flowers (lip length: 12-17mm vs 14-23 of Ophrys iricolor). Also, it flowers somewhat later, at the end of March - April, while the shiny blue macula design is smaller and not reaching the notches between median and lateral lobes (as you may see in plant No1).
Notes: The presentation of this endemic would be impossible without the kind offer of Walter Van den Bussche, who visited many Greek islands, during March and April 2005 and sent all the following photos.
