Διακριτό είδος, ένας από τους δύο εκπροσώπους της ομάδας tenthredinifera . Διάσπαρτο στην Μεσόγειο, όπου η ποικιλομορφία του πιθανά οφείλεται στην συνύπαρξη πολλών διαφορετικών ειδών. Η ποικιλομορφία αυτή προέρχεται από φυτά με διαφορετικό χρόνο άνθησης, μέγεθος και χρωματισμό του άνθους και διαφορετική τρίχωση του χείλους. Πρόσφατα αναγνωρίστηκε ότι τα φυτά της ανατολικής μεσογείου αποτελούν ξεχωριστό είδος, την Ophrys villosa με ιδιαίτερα χαρακτηριστικά την κυκλοτερή συνεχόμενη τρίχωση του χείλους και την απουσία (συνήθως) θυσάνου τριχών πάνω από την απόφυση (για περισσότερες πληροφορίες για την αναγνώριση νέων ειδών στην ομάδα tenthredinifera, επισκεφθείτε τις σελίδες http://www.ophrys.be/b3.htm και http://www.ophrys.be/news.htm της ιστοσελίδας OPHRYS). Distinct species, one of the two Greek representatives of the tenthredinifera group. Spread out through Mediterranean, where its great variability is due to the possible co-existence of many different species under the same name. This variability comes from the varying flowering time, size and coloration of the flowers and pillosity of the lip. Recently, species from eastern Mediterranean have been classified as separate species, named Ophrys villosa, with particular characteristics, the continuous circular hairiness of the lip and the absence of hair tuft above the appendix (for more details about the recognition of new species of the tenthredinifera group you may visit the pages http://www.ophrys.be/b3.htm and http://www.ophrys.be/news.htm of the OPHRYS website).
