Orchis punctulata

STEVEN ex LINDLEY, 1835

Εύκολα αναγνωρίσιμη ορχιδέα, με χαρακτηριστικά κίτρινα, ανθρωπόμορφα άνθη. Φέρει στην ταξιανθία του μέχρι και 100 άνθη. Φύεται μόνο στην Ρόδο όπου είναι εξαιρετικά σπάνια και παρατηρήθηκε τελευταία φορά το 1986 (Kretzschmar, 2004) και στην Θράκη στον νομό Έβρου*. Η παράξενη αυτή κατανομή υποδηλώνει επέκταση (αποικισμό) του φυτού από την γειτονική Τουρκία. Ανθίζει νωρίς, κατά τους μήνες Φεβρουάριο-Μάιο.

 * Σημείωση: Οι φωτογραφίες αυτού του εξαιρετικά σπάνιου είδους (διαφάνειες 1 ως 5) απεστάλησαν ευγενικά από τον James Mast de Maeght και προέρχονται από το Ελληνικό τμήμα της Κύπρου.

*Σημείωση2: Μετά από πολλά χρόνια στην ευρύτερη περιοχή της Δαδιάς ξανα-ανακαλύφθηκε η Orchis punctulata σε δάση βελανιδιάς. Οι φωτογραφίες Νο6-9 προέρχονται από πληθυσμό 3 ατόμων. Λίγες μέρες μετά, ο Γιώργος Παστρικός ανακάλυψε σε κοντινή περιοχή ακόμα 8 άτομα και ένα σπανιότατο υβρίδιο Orchis punctulata x purpurea. Η ύπαρξη της Orchis punctulata στην ηπειρωτική Ελλάδα βασιζόταν σε ελάχιστες αναφορές από τις οποίες οι τελευταίες των W. Luders (1993) και B.Biel (2003) (δείτε και στα links: Kretzschmar H, Eccarius W, Dietrich H. The Orchid Genera Anacamptis, Orchis, Neotinea). Φαίνεται ότι στην νέα αυτή τοποθεσία τα φυτά αναπαράγονται και δεν είναι αποτέλεσμα μεταφοράς σπόρων από την Τουρκία και αυτό αναδεικνύεται από την ύπαρξη του υβριδίου.

Easily recognizable orchid, due to its unique, yellow, anthropomorphous flowers. Its inflorescence bears up to 100 flowers. It grows only in Rhodes, where it is extremely rare and  has been observed for the last time on 1986 (Kretzschmar, 2004) and in Thrace, in Evros county*. This strange distribution suggests colonization by the plants of the neighboring Turkey. It flowers early, during the months February-May.

* Notes2: After many years, at the wide Dadia forest area, Orchis punctulata rediscovered in oak forests, at the southern edge of the national park. Photos No6-9 come from a small colony of 3 individuals. Some days later, Giorgos Pastrikos discovered in a nearby area another 8 plants and the extremely rare hybrid Orchis punctulata x purpurea. The existence of Orchis punctulata in continental Greece was based only at few reports, the last of them being of W. Luders (1993) and  B.Biel (2003) (see at the links: Kretzschmar H, Eccarius W, Dietrich H. The Orchid Genera Anacamptis, Orchis, Neotinea). Most probably, in this new location, Orchis punctulata actively attracts insects and reproduces as it is indicated by the occurence of the hybrid.
